GENESIS 1:1
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth."
In biblical psychology, this verse describes the first movement
within the soul, not the construction of a physical universe. It is
the moment when the I AM awakens within
consciousness and establishes the two fundamental poles of inner
experience: the higher and the lower.
“God” is the indwelling Divine Presence, the unconditioned center of
the soul.
“Heaven” is the higher nature, the realm of spiritual consciousness.
“Earth” is the lower nature, the realm of form, instinct, and
unshaped potential.
This is the soul’s beginning, the emergence of duality within unity.
“In the beginning” — the awakening of consciousness
This is not a temporal beginning.
It is the first moment of awareness, when the soul becomes capable
of receiving the Divine impulse.
It marks:
- the birth of self‑consciousness
- the emergence of the inner observer
- the first distinction between higher and lower
- the opening of the soul to evolution
The “beginning” is the dawn of the soul’s spiritual history.
“God created the heaven” — the establishment of the higher
nature
“Heaven” symbolizes the upper pole of the soul:
- intuition
- spiritual will
- the Christ‑principle
- the realm of archetypal ideas
This is the part of the soul that knows its origin, that reflects
the Divine without distortion.
It is created first because the Higher must exist before the lower
can be raised.
“And the earth” — the formation of the lower nature
“Earth” is the lower pole:
- the emotional nature
- the instinctual drives
- the unformed psychic substance
- the field in which qualities grow
It is not “evil”; it is unfinished.
It is the raw material that will be shaped, purified, and lifted by
the Higher.
The entire drama of Genesis unfolds within this polarity.
The Esoteric Message.....
Genesis 1:1 describes the soul’s first differentiation: the Divine
Presence establishes within consciousness both the higher nature
(“heaven”) and the lower nature (“earth”), creating the polarity
through which all spiritual evolution unfolds.
