SKIN.....

SKIN OF HUMAN BODY

A symbol of the outer envelope of the soul, which is the means of functioning upon the astral or physical plane.

"The interior man is 'clothed with skin and flesh' (JOB x. 9), since wherein it is raised up to things above, it is straightly blockaded with the besieging of fleshly motions. And hast fenced me with bones and sinews.' With flesh and skin we are clothed, but we are fenced with bones and sinews,' in that though we receive a shock by temptation assaulting us from without, yet the hand of the Creator strengthens us within, that we should not be shattered. And so by the promptings of the flesh, He abases us in respect of His gifts, but by the bones of virtue He strengthens us against temptations." - ST. SKINS AS CLOTHING

Symbolic of the mental, astral, or physical sheaths of the soul.

"And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and clothed them." - GENESIS. iii. 21.

And the Divine Law caused the mental and astral bodies to be formed for the soul.

SKINS OF ANIMALS

A symbol of the astro-physical forms of the lower animals or man.

"Fuh-he's dress consisted of the skins of animals, his drink, their blood." - Chinese Mythology, KIDD, China.

The Logos working from within produced the animal creation. The "dress of animals' skins" refers to the passing on of the forms of the brute kingdom to mankind. The "blood" signifies the transmitted physical vitality which is also largely relative to the physical plane. The type-forms are worked up to the "fittest" in the animal kingdom according to the measure of the astrophysical life which is expressed. This refers in the most man-like types, however, only to the accommodation of the astral man type-form, or lunar pitri, which is introduced to the physical evolution at an advanced stage. This introduction comes as a tendency to human form in a series of anthropoid forms which eventuate in the human type.

“The main conclusion here arrived at is that man is descended from some less highly organised form. The grounds upon which this conclusion rests will never be shaken, for the close similarity between man and the lower animals in embryonic development, as well as in innumerable points of structure and constitution, both of high and of the most trifling importance,-the rudiments which he retains, and the abnormal reversions to which he is occasionally liable,—are facts which cannot be disputed. They have long been known, but until recently they told us nothing with respect to the origin of man. Now when viewed by the light of our knowledge of the whole organic world, their meaning is unmistakable. The great principle of evolution stands up clear and firm, when these groups of facts are considered in connection with others, such as the mutual affinities of the members of the same group, their geographical distribution in past and present times, and their geological succession.
