PANDAVAS, OR FIVE PANDU PRINCES, THE SONS OF PANDU

Symbols of five of the higher active attributes of the soul, namely,—Yudhi‑shthira = the Spiritual mind. Bhima = the philosophic Intellect. Arjuna = the Personality—with Spark. Nakula = the love of Goodness. Sahadeva = the love of Truth.

These enter the field of conflict (the mind) to overcome the desires (Kurus).

“Dhritarashtra: Tell me, O Sanjaya, what the people of my own party and those of Pandu, who are assembled at Kurukshetra resolved upon war, have been doing.

Sanjaya: King Duryodhana, having just beheld the army of the Pandus drawn up in battle array, went to his preceptor and spoke these words: ‘Behold! O Master, the mighty army of the sons of Pandu drawn up by thy pupil, the clever son of Drupada.’” — Bhagavad‑Gita, I.1.
