ROMANS 8:11
"But if the Spirit of him
that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up
Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his
Spirit that dwelleth in you."
In biblical psychology, this verse describes the awakening of the
Higher Life within the lower nature.
It is not about physical resurrection but the revivifying action of
the Divine Spirit upon the soul still functioning through the mortal
(carnal) personality.
“The Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead”
This symbolizes the eternal Divine Life, the same spiritual force
that lifts consciousness out of the lower mind’s limitations.
“Jesus” represents the human aspect, the
personality purified and surrendered;
“Christ” represents the Higher Self, the divine
nature within.
To say that this Spirit “dwells in you” means that
the seed of the Higher Life is already present in the depths of the
soul, waiting to be activated.
“He… shall also quicken your mortal bodies” refers
to the transmutation of the lower vehicles: the emotional, mental,
and physical aspects of the personality - by the inflow of spiritual
energy.
“Quicken” means to infuse with higher vitality, to
spiritualize what was once governed by instinct, habit, and fear.
In mysticism terms, this is the moment when:
- the Higher Self begins to animate the lower self
- the personality becomes transparent to the Divine
- the mortal nature is lifted into alignment with the immortal
- the soul’s inner resurrection begins while still in the body
This “quickening” is not instantaneous; it is the
gradual resurrection of consciousness, the rising of the inner life
from the death‑state of ignorance into the living state of spiritual
awareness.
The Spirit “that dwelleth in you” is the indwelling
Christ‑principle, the divine spark that transforms the entire inner
constitution when it is allowed to permeate it.
The Esoteric Message…..
The resurrection is an inner event: the Divine Spirit awakens the
soul from within, raising the mortal nature into the life of the
Higher Self.
