WINDS, FOURA symbol of the quaternary — the four lower planes of manifestation. "And I saw the chambers of the winds, and I saw how He had furnished with them the whole creation and the firm foundations of the earth. And I saw the corner-stone of the earth; I saw the four winds which bear the earth and the firmament of the heaven. And I saw how the winds stretch out the vaults of heaven and have their station between heaven and earth: these are the pillars of the heaven." — R. H. CHARLES, The Book of Enoch, Ch. XVIII. 1, 2, 3. "Therefore give Thou unto me bliss and Thy peace: that the grasping of the four winds may knit together my parts." — Book of the Dead, Ch. CX. For this reason (of self-knowledge) bliss shall be committed to me, inasmuch as it alone is of the true nature of the Self which in essence is pure bliss. The full control of the four planes — buddhic, mental, astral, and physical, which are the means of evolution — serves to knit together the nature which is to be expressed under manifold aspects. "Four entrances into heaven. That of the north wind belongeth to Osiris, that of the south wind to Ra; that of the west wind to Isis; and that of the east wind to Nephthys." — BUDGE, Book of the Dead, Ch. CLXI. The quaternary offers four means of developing the soul for the higher planes. "Come unto me, O thou of the Four Winds, Almighty One, who breathest spirit into men to give them life. O thou whose tireless eyes are Sun and Moon — that shine in the pupils of the sons of men" (Invocation to the Good Mind). — C. LUMANS, Papy. Gr. The soul seeks union with the Self incarnate within the lower nature (four planes), who emanates the spirit, or Life, into the minds of humanity to give them immortality. For the centres of consciousness and perception are higher and lower, namely, the individuality (sun) and the personality (moon); and these bring truth to the spiritual egos. |
