UNLEAVENED BREAD

A symbol of purification through goodness and truth,-" leaven" in this case standing for desire and lower emotion.

“Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our passover also hath been sacrificed, even Christ: wherefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." - 1 COR. v. 7, 8.

Christ the passover that "hath been sacrificed," refers to the Divine sacrifice in involution, and the passing over to the present state of evolution in which the Divine love arises from within in measure as it is called forth by the most advanced qualities or virtues in the soul. These qualities, then, are exhorted to continue their purification no longer by means of the discipline of authority and moral coercion; or of the strife of passion and desire, but by the gentle means of unblemished goodness and sincere love of Truth, thereby purging the mind of its lower qualities (old leaven).
