SON OF MAN

 A symbol of the soul in the stage of being made perfect, wherein the lower nature is being purified finally by the Higher. It represents a soul not yet completely evolved and perfected, for the perfect soul is a Son of God. "Son of son of mind, i.e. the manifesting spiritual ego as an evolved product, or "child," of the "natural man," or mind, while the ego remains attached to the mind, and its manifestation is limited by the lower conditions. When the natural man is purified and transmuted, then the spiritual ego is fully manifest and again becomes "Son of God" as it was before its descent into matter.

"What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him but little lower than God, and crownest him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his fect." - Ps. viii. 4-6.

Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself." - Ps. lxxx. 17.

These texts refer to the Son of man of the cycle of involution, the Self born on the mental plane, and become the Archetypal Man having dominion over all things of the soul life.

The Son of man, the Lord from Heaven, as he was variously called, was the divine root or essence of human nature in general as well as the strong deliverer which was to come." - R. J. CAMPBELL, Serm., The Eternal Self.

Representing the soul as having sprung from the primitive man, Mani interpreted in this sense the biblical name, 'Son of man.' " - NEANDER, Church History, Vol. II. p. 214.

“And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Israel." - EZEK. iii. 4, 5.

The spiritual ego or mind (Son of man) expresses "God's words" in the conscience to disciplined qualities (Israel), but cannot do SO to undisciplined qualities whose expression is hard and strange to spiritual influences. God can send the conscience only to those who are sufficiently progressed to be able to hear the Divine voice within.
