SHORE, THE OTHER

A symbol of the buddhic or buddhi-mental plane, including a devachanic or nirvanic, state of consciousness.

"Few there are among men who arrive at the other shore (become Arhats); the other people here run up and down the shore. But those who, when the Law has been well preached to them, follow the Law, will pass across the dominion of death, however difficult to overcome." - Dhammapada, Ch. VI. 85, 86. (Foot-note by Max Müller: "The other shore' is meant for Nirvana, this shore' for common life.")

Few of the mental qualities or souls have passed on to the higher planes; most are engaged in the activities of the lower planes, going to, and returning from the physical life. But when the Divine Law is understood and followed, then the souls are purified and they pass from death to life everlasting.
