Heaven
A symbol of the state of consciousness on the
buddhic plane which is above the mental plane.
"The first man is of the earth, earthy : the second man is of
heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy : and
as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And we
have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of
the heavenly." - 1 COR. XV. 47-9.
The “first man” is the personality (Adam of dust), which is
developed from below through the astral evolution, the matter
(earthy) side of being. The "second man " is the individuality or
Divine monad from above, the spiritual (heavenly) side of being. To
the personality are attached the lower qualities, and to the
individuality the higher qualities. In the course of development,
the ego more and more asserts its Divine nature, and finally rises
from the lower nature to become united with the higher in
consciousness on the buddhic plane.
"More and more distinctly over our human life, with all its best
affections, hangs the serene heaven of the divine life, the heaven
of the love of God, into which our human affections must enter
before they become religious; into which they cannot enter till they
have been born again. These (affections) which the Spirit finds in
you are not religion. Never let yourself think that they are, and so
depreciate and disregard the work which the Spirit has to do in you.
They are not religion; but they are the material of the religious
life. They are the part of your nature in which you may become
religious. They are the stone in your nature out of which the temple
may be built." - PHILLIPS BROOKS, Serm., How many Loaves, etc.?
“The quality of the Eternal Life alone makes the heaven; mere
everlastingness might be no boon." - H. DRUMMOND, Natural Law, etc.,
