GIRDLE OF LEATHER
An emblem of spiritual support and confidence.
"And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey." - MARK i. 6.
The moral nature (John) was endued with capability of obedience and willingness to endure, and had the support which is derived from the things of the Spirit. Locusts and wild honey' are the food which signifies the natural means of nourishment; subsistence upon plain ascertainable facts of life, as upon uncooked simple fare, which can be procured direct from the natural environment by means of the senses.
