GATHA AHUNA-VAIRYA, FOUR TIMES CHANTED

Symbolic of the formation of the lower quaternary, through buddhic vibrations passing downward, or outward.

"Famous in Airyana-vaêjo, thou (Zarathustra) first recitest the Ahuna-vairya four times, with pauses between the verses, each successive time with louder recitation." - Homa Yasht, HAUG, Essays, p. 179.

This refers to the inter-relation between the astral and buddhic (Airyana-varêjo) planes. And the repetition of the hymn four times is the establishment of the lower quaternary. The pauses are the distinctive operations of the elemental forces of nature. The recitation of the verses and the louder utterance of them refers to the increasing density of the matter of the four lower planes, viz. lower mental, astral, etheric, and gross physical.
