FOOD FOR THE SOUL

A symbol of spiritual sustenance; truth, wisdom, and love, which enter into the higher emotions, and nourish the soul.

“Of the nourishments brought to the righteous man, the Zaremaya oil; that is the food, after decease, of a youth of good thoughts, words, deeds, and religion; that is the food, after decease, for a woman of very good thoughts, words, deeds, well-instructed, ruled by a master and righteous.” — The Hadokht Nask, Haug, *Essays*.

The Self within the soul is sustained “by Love, the oil of gladness,” the food which satisfies the mind that is growing in grace, i.e. learning to depend on higher things of the Spirit. This love of Truth and Right is the sustenance also of the Wisdom nature (the holy woman) which is instructed only by the Supreme — the Absolute.

“And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, shall supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness.” — 2 Cor. ix. 10.

The Supreme from whom cometh the spiritual germs of the higher emotions and faculties to the Soul, and the “bread of heaven” — truth — goodness — for the Soul’s sustenance, shall bestow and develop the spiritual germs within the qualities, so that the “fruits of the Spirit” shall be increased through the perfecting of the qualities of the Soul.
