FEEDING OF THE FOUR THOUSAND

A symbol of the imparting by higher qualities of knowledge and goodness to lower qualities.

“And Jesus commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves and the fishes; and he gave thanks and brake, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. And they did all eat and were filled." - MATTHEW xv. 35-37.

The Christ within enforces obedience. "Sitting" corresponds to the position of acquiescence and receptivity of mind, in which attitude instruction could be given. The taking and giving of the "loaves and fishes" signifies the dispensing of such truths and goodness as were at the disposal of the disciplined qualities, which were then able to minister to the less-developed qualities of the soul. The eating and being filled correspond to a condition in which satisfaction for a time was arrived at.
