EGYPT, HIGHER OR NORTHERNA symbol of the higher mental plane, or of the buddhi-manas level of the consciousness. "The half-mythical country in the south was known to the Egyptians as 'the land of the Gods.'" - Sayce, Gifford Lectures, p. 134. "And Cronus (Ammon), going to the EGYPT land of the South, gave the whole of Egypt to the God Taaut (Thoth) to be his kingdom." - Sanchuniathon, Cory's Fragments. "But the elder of the two children Isis took with her and set sail with the chest to Egypt; and it being now about morning, the river Phædrus sending forth a sharp air, she in her anger dried up its current." - Plutarch, Isis and Osiris, $ 16. Here the mental faculty is raised by buddhi (Isis), elevating consciousness to the plane of the higher intellect. It is the dawn of Truth, the first clear perception of Reality. The lower mind, filled with rigid opinions and the "wind of doctrine," is superseded. "But there were others who said that the struggle between Horus and Set went on with alternating success, until at last Thoth was appointed arbiter and divided Egypt between the two foes. Southern Egypt was given to Horus, Northern Egypt to Set." - Plutarch, Isis and Osiris, $ 19. Those who perceived only the outward conflict of forms believed that union with the Divine was not complete until the mind (Thoth) acted as arbiter, assigning to Spirit and to the emotion-nature their respective spheres. On the higher planes this appears inverted, for Spirit seems to operate upon the lower. Spirit (Horus) manifests upon the astral plane as love, through which the soul's evolution proceeds. Egypt signifies kama-manas. Southern Egypt (Horus) is the more manasic and solar; Northern Egypt (Set) is the more kamic and lunar. |
