DOORKEEPERS, INDRA AND PRAGĀPATI, OF THE HALL of BRAHMAN
Symbolic of the Divine Will and Wisdom, or devotion to the Highest and a direct vision of the Truth. These stand, as it were, at the entrance of the "palace of Perfection and the adjudge condition required previous to the soul's final liberation from the lower nature.
"He (a man) approaches the door-keepers Indra and Pragapati and they run away from him. He approaches the hall Vibhu, and the glory of Brahman reaches him." - Kaush. Upanishad, I. 2.
The ascending soul approaches the aspects of the Self,-Will and Wisdom, and these now quit their former positions as conditioning access to the higher planes; they are no longer needed, that is, they are no longer required to be manifested. The soul then comes to the Hall of final liberation, and then it is that the Glory of the Supreme is made evident to him,— for it can never be beheld so long as the thraldom of manifestation is imposed upon the Self.
