CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS, ACCORDING TO CERINTHUS

"Jesus suffered; and Christ remained incapable of suffering, being a Spirit of the Lord." - HIPPOLYTUS, Works, Bk. X. p. 385.

"Jesus" is a symbol of the almost perfected soul whose personality suffers at the last. The Christ,-the Atman,- could not suffer, for suffering is only of the lower planes, and is the result of imperfect functioning.

"Christ suffered and died. The God-head indeed could not suffer. But God could take a nature which is capable of suffering." - H. P. LIDDON, University Sermons, p. 231.
