BRIDGE OF GJALL 

A symbol of the higher mind leading to spiritual illumination of the consciousness.

"Hermöd rode nine nights and days through dark and deep valleys, and saw no light until he came to Gjall, and rode over the bridge of Gjall, which is overlaid with glittering gold" (Story of Balder, in Edda). - HOWITT, Literature, etc.

At this stage the Christ-soul is described as taking a lengthy ride,- that is, the Self acts through the intellect (horse) alone, which functioning corresponds with riding through dark and deep valleys of the lower mind, the avenue of approach to Gjall," that is, to those faculties which at length lead up to the illumination which proceeds from intuition (gold). The "bridge" is the point of junction with the Higher Self, from which inspiration,-the expression of the Holy Spirit, the source of all Truth to humanity, emanates.
