BLANDISHMENT OF WOMEN TOWARDS THE BUDDHA
Symbolic of the higher emotions in their perfect attractiveness within the soul on the buddhic plane.
There the women delighted the Buddha with their soft voices, their beautiful pearl garlands, their playful intoxication, their sweet laughter, and their stolen glances concealed by their brows."-Buddha-Karita, Bk. I. 31.
At this high level in involution the higher emotions are able to appeal to the soul successfully. The "soft voices," "pearl garlands," "playful intoxication," "sweet laughter," and "stolen glances," are symbolic of the attractive aspects of Wisdom,-responded to from above in the soul. The higher emotions which delight the incarnate Self are the buddhi-manasic impulses from within, such as love of righteousness and truth, of justice, mercy, wisdom, gentleness, peace, harmony, perfection, humanity, etc. These are symbolised by the attractive pleasantries of women (emotions).
