APEP, THE SERPENT

A symbol of the desire-mental nature.

“The undulating length of the serpent Apep, of whom it is said, 'his voice goeth round the Tuat.'" - BUDGE, Egypt. Heaven and Hell, Vol. II. p. 268.

In the relativity of the lower mind it may be said that the expression, or utterance, of the desire impulse allied with mind in the lower nature of the human soul, extends through the whole cycle of manifested life (the Tuat).

The desire-mind (Apep) is the adversary against which all the higher qualities (gods) contend. It is for ever being cut to pieces, but comes to life again all the same in other states and conditions of the soul's development.
